Do Not Research is an arts organization that began in the Discord server attached to this podcast and newsletter. DNR has been publishing twice a week for the past two years, featuring work by over 200 unique contributors, as well as mounting physical exhibitions, sold out film screenings, book launches and much more.
We recently launched a new book, Do Not Research 2022-2023 at
in NYC. You can purchase a copy of the book here. This 402 page volume includes all the text published to the blog since April of 2022 and numerous forthcoming posts to be published online throughout the remainder of 2023. Find a complete list of contributors here.In the last few years, I’ve spoken at length about the elite capture of legacy media and institutions. Today’s mainstream news and culture feels either irrelevant or wildly out of touch. But criticism is cheap. And it doesn’t mean much if you don’t build an alternative:
Do Not Research is a space for writing, visual art, internet culture research and beyond. Our contributors range from established artists with multiple museum retrospectives to recent graduates and shitposting anons. DNR is one of the few places to engage in rigorous conversation about the shifting Overton window and its subsequent shock waves throughout the cultural sphere.
When I first wrote Politigram & the Post-left no publisher or institution would have it. So I opened up the work to crowdfunding and was overwhelmed by the response. Clearly, this work was important and necessary to many of us, but those values were not shared by the institutions of our time. So we built a new one.
You can scroll back to listen to the audio from our book launch last year at the New Museum in NYC. At the live event I’m in dialogue with Lauren Boyle of the influential artist collective Dis discussing new cultural institutions for the 21st century. (Many thanks to Rhizome for hosting us.)
In the coming weeks and months, DNR will continue to publish and organize pop up events in NYC and elsewhere. Its been a great honor to publish and work alongside so many of you in these past few years. I look forward to many more!
