Welcome to Doomscroll. My guest is Emma Vigeland, a co-host of the Majority Report. We discuss the rapacious cannibalism of the Epstein class, dual loyalty among elites, right-wing affordability and a “crisis of ethics in gaming journalism”.
In this conversation, a few important things clicked into place for me. Right now, there is a nationalist turn unfolding across the advanced world. In the wake of the left’s defeat, a right-wing movement that foregrounds the cost-of-living has risen up to take its place. Conservative parties are finding new ways to advance a nationalist agenda of affordability.
Emma and I trace several emerging developments in our online media landscape and plot a course for the near future. The Daily Wire may soon be over but whatever comes next might be worse. Towards the end, we explore some of the more sensitive and difficult topics on the left; popular backlash to activist rhetoric, the on-going crisis at the southern boarder, and what the left should bring to the table for midterms and 2028.
In studying the online media landscape over the past decade, I’ve observed that many progressives place a strong emphasize on the moral crisis brought about by the Trump administration. In this lineage, Doomscroll asks why these crises have instead resulted in popular support for the right? How do we balance vanguard ideology with the majoritarian base necessary to transform democratic politics?
