Welcome to Doomscroll. I’m amazed by how quickly this series has taken off and received such a warm welcome online. It’s time to release episode #03 with guest Jreg. There is a lot more coming up for season 1 — I’ve got new episodes coming out every week.
As a reminder, this is a subscriber supported project. If these episodes make you laugh, cry or do both (possibly at the same time) you can show your support by becoming a paid subscriber. Your support allows me to continue doing this work:
My guest for this week is Jreg or Greg Guevara as he is known offline. Greg is a popular YouTube creator who explores online radical politics. We discuss:
Incredibly niche political ideologies that only exist online
What post-irony and the expanding Overton window means for real world politics
Social atomization as a political project, finding community & taking the friend pill
I first came across Jreg’s work through his viral video the Political Compass Rap. His channel explores radical online politics at the limits of (and far beyond) the Overton window.
I consider Greg to be one of the most relevant and influential artists of our era. His work is challenging, deeply insightful and reflects our unique cultural moment. Beneath the layers of irony and satire is a complex understanding of the world and online culture. It’s my great pleasure to have him on for this episode.
